On September 1993 CMM9 exhibition was held in Chicago / USA, it was my great pleasure to meet Mr. Herbert Weiss, the author of “Rotogravure & Flexographic presses” which is my first translation of printing book in Chinese. I have presented him 2 books for his collection and memory.
On May 1994 when PAPRO was held in Dusseldorf / Germany, Mr. George Parisi, Chairman of FTA / USA had promised and authorized me to translate into Chinese this “Flexography, principles and practices 4th edition” which is a text book published by Flexo Technical Association / USA and treated as a Bible for flexography.
This edition was organized by FTA Foundation combined a group of flexo experts and spent many years to modify from the 3 editions in the past, (1962 / 1970 / 1980) in order to coordinate with modern developments and progresses of flexography in recent years.
The first edition of Flexography : Principles & Practices was printed in 1962 under.
The overall leadership of Norman H. Abrams as chairman and F. Henry Wittel as co-chairman. Members serving on this first committee were : Calvin Balcom, James J. Deeney, Peter M. Fahrendorf, Jr., Richard E. Jansing, Heinz P. John , Mel Kester, David Killary, Franklin Moss, Frank Murphy, Christopher shepherd, Douglas E.
Tuttle. and Robert Zuckerman.
The second edition was released in 1970 under the chairmanship of Howard K. Sheldon. Committee members included: George H. Anthony, E. Howard Grupe, Jack Kemerling, John M. Miller Ned E. Mitchell, Frederick K. Moss, George J. Parisi, Daniel A. White and Robert Zuckerman.
Because of the rapid growth of flexography, it was soon obvious that a new revised. Edition was necessary, In 1980, the third edition was published with Joe W. Cotton as chairman. Members of this revision committee were : Don Vanden Branden, Robert Demetrician, Don Donelan, James K. Ely, Gerald J. Gartner, Charles R. Heurich, Vernon P. Johnson, Joseph B. Lankford, Wallace D. Nard, Henry F. Salmaggi, Fred Shapiro, Howard K. Sheldon, Douglas E. Tuttle, Bruce Weaver and George Wilfling.
On this 4th edition, in addition to the new development, concept and new technology of flexo hardware, (such as water based ink / high speed press / ceramic anilox roller / scanner / photopolymer plate) also including flexo software of graphic design / plate making / production skill / mounting and proofing / substrates / press room design / environment protection / safety guide as well UPC and computer soft ware. It is worthy to say a “Bible of flexography”
